The A.P. Police came into existence along with the formation AP State. Some parts of the present Andhra Pradesh state was ruled by the Asaf Jah dynasty. Some area was for a long time under the Vijayanagar dynasty that was founded by Sri Krishnadevaraya. The organization of the police during this period was called the Kaveli System or the Hindoo Police. In each village, town, city and district were stationed officers of police with gradations of rank and numbers of retainers commensurate with their ranges, from that of the humblest Kavilgar to the most powerful Poligar. The Kavilgars were entrusted the internal security and tranquility of the state. They were armed and paid by means of contributions from every inhabitant in addition to an assessment amount. The Poligars were expected to join the king’s army in times of external danger. They were entrusted with the safety of public property and were armed with the means and paid for the purpose of protecting it. They were held responsible and questioned for all thefts, robberies, depredation, detection and apprehension of public offenders. When the British came in the 19th century they introduced a system of policing that initiated a process of transition from military diplomacy to a modernized system

Eligibility Criteria:
For the posts mentioned against Post Code nos. 11 to 17 only men are eligible and only women are eligible for Post Code no. 18. B.
For post code no. 15 : All the vacancies will be filled up with candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes who are domiciled in the Scheduled Areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Mahaboobnagar, Adilabad, Warangal and Khammam districts.
The rule of Special representation (reservation) provided in Rule 22 of A.P. State & Subordinate Service Rules, 1996 is not applicable to these posts.
Age Limitation:
i) For the post code nos. 11 to 16 and 18 : Must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years as on 1st July, 2011 i.e., must have been born not earlier than 2nd July, 1986 and not later than 1st July, 1990

Qualification:
The candidate must hold, as on 1st July, 2011, a Degree awarded by any University in India, established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, Provisional Act of State or of any institution recognised by the University Grants Commission or any other equivalent qualification. In the case of a candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, as on 1st July, 2011, he/she must have passed Intermediate or any other examination recognised by the State Government as being equivalent to Intermediate and should have studied Degree.
Procedure/Scheme for Selection Of Members: Written Test
Physical Requirments : The candidates must have the following requirements
i) For the post code nos. 11 to 17:
a) Height:Members Must not be less than 167.6 cms.
b) Chest:Members Must not be less than 86.3 cms round the chest on full inspiration with a minimum expansion of 5 cms.
ii) For the post code no. 18:
a) Height:Members Must not be less than 152.5 cms
b) Weight:Members Must not be less than 40 kgs
